Copa Edwards

Copa Edwards is a summer youth soccer tournament for kids from 3 through 15 years of age. Copa Edwards began with a committee of parents, teachers, church leaders and The Youth Foundation Staff who were concerned with the levels of inactivity for low-income children during the summer months.  

The program brings families and neighbors together through the game of soccer. Coaches for all the teams are provided on a volunteer basis. This opportunity is provided through the dedication of our partners, Rotary Club of Edwards and WECMRD. The funding provided by Rotary enables this tournament to be professionally organized, staffed and refereed to the standards you would expect of any top class tournament and the generous donation of fields by WECMRD completes the professional experience for the participants. All the referees are professionally trained and certified and are part of our Community Coaching staff. Community Coaches are Youth Foundation students currently enrolled in High School. There are currently 37 teams with an average of 14 players per team (Total of 518 players).

This celebration of soccer, teamwork, and family is under USSF rules and plays in a 8 v 8 format. Emphasis is on experiential learning so scores are not kept during games. The first 8 weeks is considered practice and on the final weekend there is a competitive tournament day for all teams.

Copa occurs every Sunday from June through August bringing families together and stimulating good relationships between parents and kids. Other positive factors include increased family time and communication as well as great outdoor fun and physical activity.

With community support The Youth Foundation, the Rotary Club, WECMRD, and all the people involved in this great program have been able to make this tournament better every year.  This coming season we are adding mandatory Coaching clinics for all coaches and Parent clinics. These clinics will emphasize fun, respect, fair play, teamwork and the rules of play.
