WECMRD
The Youth Foundation and WECMRD (Western Eagle County Metro Recreation District) have built a great partnership to best serve kids in western Eagle County. With separate missions and goals, both TYF and WECMRD realized that we have plenty in common; we’re both working toward meaningful engagement for those in our programs and we share many common traits for what both organizations see as effective programming. Bringing together our talents and resources we have been able to impact many more families and youth in our community. Here are a few great opportunities made
available through partnering:
- Shared space at the new WECMRD Field House in Edwards, where the Youth Foundation recently moved our offices to have easy access to hundreds of kids with great recreational opportunities at the Field House.
- After participating in supervised homework help and literacy enrichment throughout the school year, elementary school students are also involved in a variety of activities including golf, soccer, baseball, dodge ball, crab soccer, cricket, rugby, net ball, volleyball, kick ball, music lessons, drama club and board games providing a chance to explore strengths and build skills.
- Use of the Gypsum Recreation Center, where children have the opportunity to swim, climb, and exercise.
- More than 200 middle school students are receiving homework help and are rewarded with participation in the western slope soccer league.
- Parents In Action COPA Edwards has 110 Hispanic youth ages 6- 14 years and 60 parents participating in the COPA soccer program through the summer with Edwards Rotary providing uniform sponsorship in cooperation with The Youth Foundation and WECMRD.
- A Climbing Club in partnership with The Youth Foundation after school program, Meet the Wilderness climbing staff, and WECMRD provides high challenge and high support to a group of dedicated middle schoolers at the Gypsum Recreation Center climbing wall this school year.
- The First Tee Sports & Fitness for Life 6 week Camp through The Youth Foundation, 600 kids learning life skills and character development through golf, soccer, martial arts, fitness and nutrition.
- The Youth Foundation and WECMRD offer the Smart Start Program, a program for 3-5 year-olds and their parents to teach parents how to be effective coaches for their children.
- The Youth Foundation provides coaching assistance to the WECMRD summer soccer camps.
WECMRD is an ideal example of how effective community partnerships can be. Without this mutually beneficial relationship we would not have the opportunity to reach as many children and provide such fun experiences!
