El Pomar gives to Eagle County nonprofits
Youth Foundation, Eagle Care Medical Clinic receive $15,000 each
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — The El Pomar Foundation's Awards for Excellence honored and rewarded Colorado's top nonprofit organizations this week, handing out more than $400,000 in prizes.
During the ceremony at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, awards were presented in 11 different categories. Vail-based Small Champions of Colorado was named the winner of the Sports & Recreation category, Eagle-based Eagle Care Medical Clinic was named the winner of the Small Health Care category, and The Youth Foundation in Edwards was named the winner of the Education category. Each winner received a $15,000 prize.
Awards for Excellence, a program administered by Colorado Springs-based El Pomar Foundation, annually recognizes the state's highest performing nonprofit organizations. Finalists and winners are selected by a statewide panel of community leaders. In total, 33 nonprofits were selected as finalists.
Other Eagle County finalists included Walking Mountains Science School of Avon and SOS Outreach of Edwards. All finalists received $7,500.
The Awards for Excellence program was established by the El Pomar Foundation in 1989. Since that time, more than $5.2 million has been awarded to more than 400 different nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
El Pomar Foundation, based in Colorado Springs, is one of the largest and oldest private foundations in the Rocky Mountain West. El Pomar contributes approximately $20 million annually through grants and community stewardship programs to support Colorado nonprofit organizations involved in health, human services, education, arts and humanities, and civic and community initiatives. Spencer and Julie Penrose Founded El Pomar in 1937.
