Ambassador Keith L. Brown

Being part of the Eagle Valley community and The Youth Foundation is not new to The Honorable Keith L. Brown. In 1959 he made his first trip to the ‘Gore Creek Valley’ with his family to see what the talk was about. He and wife Carol thought it would be fun to have a little ski cabin in the mountains, Shortly thereafter they found themselves fully ensconced in the building, fundraising, and promotion of a new ski resort called Vail. Keith can tell you that there wasn’t just one job for each of the ‘pioneers’ to do: “we were everything we ‘needed’ to be.” He somehow became charged with the rather necessary job of bringing utilities, water and sewer to the valley. Keith can tell you more than a few behind the scene stories about the early days.

Since those early years, Keith has found himself in a number of wide circles including oil and gas exploration, real estate developments, investment management, politics, and philanthropy. Brown attended the University of Illinois and Northwestern University of Law and received his LL.B. degree from the University of Texas. He has served as a Director of the Public Service Company of Colorado, Colorado State Bank, San Francisco Real Estate Trust, Pioneer Airways, Griffith Realty, Inc., National Western Stock Show Association, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Inc. He also served as a Trustee and past President of the Board of the Colorado Academy and Chairman of the International Institute of Education/World Affairs Council in Denver.

In 1982 he was appointed to his first Ambassadorial post in a small country called Lesotho located in the middle of South Africa. His second appointment was to Denmark in 1989. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a member of the Board of the Foreign Affairs Museum Council, a member of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs and a member of The American Academy of Diplomacy. Since the inception of The Youth Foundation in in 1997, he has been a generous supporter and advocate for the programs offered to children of all ages.

He and his wife, Carol, make their homes in Edwards, Colorado, San Antonio, Texas, and Palm Desert, California. We are eager to welcome Ambassador Brown to the Board of Directors of the Youth Foundation. His dedication, passion, and tremendous vision will help guide the Youth Foundation in the years to come.
